Star Trek has conquered the UK box office

U.K. sci-fi fans literally rushed to the cinemas in order to see the new Star Trek movie as soon as possible and only for four days the film has won $9 million (£6 million). In USA the numbers are even more impressive. For its first weekend (09-10 May 2009) the prequel set a record of $72.5 million (£48.3 million) which claims to be the biggest opening in the franchise's history. It seems that even Swine flu can't scare the real movie fans.

J. J. Abrams’ Star Trek presents a chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members.

Back in UK, surprisingly Hugh Jackman’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine is only just on third place with $3.3 million (£2.2 million). The mutant film has been beaten by Captain Kirk and his crew from animated film Coraline, which made $3.6 million (£2.4 million).

Hannah Montana: The Movie holds the forth position with$1.95 million (£1.3 million) followed by the new Matthew McConaughey’s film Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with $1.18 million (£787,283).
