Swine Flu took its first “movie-victims”

Film industry is starting to loose millions of Dollars because of the swine flu. Many movie premieres have been canceled in Mexico as the country is fighting the ongoing swine flu outbreak.

Hugh Jackman's new film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which was due to open next week, won’t be released in the country over health fears. According to 20th Century Fox Hugh Jackman's scheduled appearance in Mexico City to promote the film has been called off.

Several other summer blockbusters including Tom Hanks' Angels & Demons, sci-fi sequel Terminator Salvation, and Star Trek have been also canceled or postponed until further notice. The film makers just can’t afford the risk.

Besides, the Mexican government has ordered the closure of movie theatres in the country, in an attempt to halt the spread of the disease.

Unfortunately the situation in US is not very good either. There are already 28 confirmed cases of swine flu in New York. Most Americans avoid going to the cinema or to other public places. The only part of the movie industry that is booming in USA and in Mexico is the DVD rental.

The only way for the film studios to save their film premiers is manufacturing and distributing special breathing masks for the cinemas.
